Overview

Intent-centric architecture is a design paradigm where users express what they want to achieve, called an intent, rather than the exact sequence of steps to do it. The system, or a network of third-party solvers, figures out the optimal route to fulfill the intent. This shifts complexity from the user to the infrastructure, making blockchain interactions feel more like describing a goal than operating machinery.

How It Works

A user signs a message describing an intent, such as "sell my ETH for the best USDC price." Solvers, who compete in an open market, examine the intent and propose executions, executing trades, bridging, and bundling across protocols to deliver the best outcome. The user approves the result, and the solver is rewarded for its work. Standardization efforts, including account abstraction standards, make these signed intents composable and verifiable.

Why It Matters

Intent-centric design dramatically improves user experience, abstracting away gas management, liquidity routing, and multi-step workflows. It also creates a competitive solver market that can drive better prices and faster settlement than manual execution. Its risks include trust in solvers, front-running of intent order flow, and new infrastructure that must be hardened against abuse.
