Overview
LayerZero is a cross-chain bridge project launched in April 2022 that enables communication and data transfer between different blockchain networks. Its native token, ZRO, is used for governance and utility within the protocol. LayerZero positions itself as an omnichain messaging standard, allowing applications to send messages and transfer assets across dozens of chains.
How It Works
LayerZero uses a design of independent relayers and oracle networks to validate messages between chains. When a message is sent from one chain, the protocol combines a relayer's proof of the transaction with an oracle's commitment to the block, so neither party can forge a message on its own. This allows applications to call contracts on other chains without a centralized intermediary.
Why It Matters
